History
Operations commenced in December 1978 under the name of Kensington Dumping and Storage Pty Ltd, following acquisition of the business from Farmers and Graziers Limited.
Over the ensuing years containerisation of wool evolved and with the operations now heavily concentrated on this vital aspect of the industry, the trading name was changed to Pack-Tainers Pty Ltd in 1983 to more accurately describe the activities of the business.
In 1986 and after some 8 years of sustained growth in the Victorian market, research on wool dumping, handling and transportation was undertaken, to assess the requirements of overseas markets and shipping companies. The impact from this research revolutionised the wool industry in Australia. In brief, the industry was seeking.
- Maximum container pay loads to reduce shipping cost.
- Fast, accurate and easy bale identification.
- Ease of handling.
Consequently in October 1987 Pack-Tainers introduced to the Australian Wool Industry, a whole new generation of wool dumping technology with the commissioning of the Single Super Density bale dump.
Initially, the Single Super Density concept was introduced to Melbourne. Following the highly successful introduction of this technology into Victoria, the company was encouraged to expand into New South Wales. Pack-Tainers entered the Sydney market in mid-1988.
The outstanding success of Pack-Tainers entry into the New South Wales market was heralded with the company winning a special commendation in 1989 at the “Exporter of the Year Awards” - Transport and Associated Services Award, after only eight months trading in that state.
Pack-Tainers innovation & technology continued and in September 1990, Pack-Tainers introduced a new Multi-Bale Dump and brought Pack-Tainers to a stage of "World's Best Practice" of 21.5 tonnes for each TEU (120 Bales). This technology is still used today.
Our facility has been specially designed as a wool dump and incorporates great ingress and regress to the site. Our three tripak machines allows for great efficiency and quick turnaround times for our clients.
Throughout the early 2000's, Darryl Wilson ( Managing Director ) and one of the original founders of the business together with his sons Brett & Mark, went about process of buying out other partners to make Pack-tainers a 100% family owned company.
Our Sydney operation offers all the same services as our Melbourne facility with the addition of a direct Container train (4 per day) from our facility direct to the NSW ports.
Unfortunately, in 2007 our original founder and managing director for nearly 30 years, Darryl Wilson, lost his battle with cancer. Since this time, his 2 sons Brett & Mark Wilson have continued his legacy and strong business ethics.
There is no question that the on-going success of Pack-Tainers is due to the enthusiasm, dedication and commitment of Management.
Pack-Tainers has an exceptional reputation within the Wool, Transport and Shipping industries for commitment to service, and more importantly, performance.
It is with this management recognition and solid reputation, that Pack-Tainers will continue to be identified as a progressive and innovative organization.
